Homemade Chicken-Raspberry-Noodles-Jam

The title might be confusing but I'm just trying to efficiently mesh 2 recent THRIVE meal experiences. The post will be crystal clear!
Yes I'm making homemade egg noodles. It's an old family recipe I learned from my cousin when we were roomates at BYU back back back in the day.
It calls for one egg per person, flour and salt to taste. Very precise, I know. Through the years I've come to modify it a bit.
This time out I used all THRIVE ingredients. After all, if it's supposed to be able to feed my family in times of need/lazinessconvenience, I must use them in our favorite recipes. So out came the THRIVE FD (that means freeze dried for those new to my blog) chopped chicken. I love this stuff! It's already cooked, skinned, boned and chopped and rehydrates in about 10 min! Quick stuff! I used my THRIVE carrots, onions, celery and boullion which of course were added to the water in the pot. Next I rehydrated about 6 eggs. That's 1 TBS. of whole egg powder to 2 TBS. of water. Mix and you have liquid eggs ready to go! Then I added about 1 tsp. salt and flour until it was pasta like consistency.
Then they were rolled out very thin like in the first picture. Dust well with flour if you try this. Then roll up the pasta the short way. By that I mean you've rolled it in a sorta rectangular/oval type shape. Once it's rolled up, using a pizza cutter, slice through in about 1" sized pieces, unroll and add them too the boiling broth.
It turned out just as yummy and disappeared just as fast as if I had done it the way I learned in college and spent the WHOLE FREAKIN' DAY preparing this meal!! (There is no picture of the final product. It was fast Sunday and that large kettle of chicken and noodles was gone like the wind) So what about the raspberry jam mix thingie? I got some YUMMY fresh raspberries at the local farmer's market Wednesday. I had every intention of saving those fresh little sweeties for jam. But I saw then I noticed the ever shrinking bowl that no one claimed responsibility for. Anyway, I smashed up the 4 containers of berries. I needed 6 smashed up cups.
As you can or can't see here but trust me it's the truth, I am exactly 1 cup SHORT. I searched the freezer for some sign of frozen berry stuff. I did find some freezer burned strawberries which I took out and began to thaw. THEN I remembered that I had the bits, pieces and powders at the bottom of a large can of THRIVE freeze dried raspberries. Brilliant!
I pour the remnants into a measuring cup and added water just to rehydrate to a thick mush state.
As you can now see, my 5 cups of smashed raspberries now comes to 6 cups and I'm off to make my jam....Well I'm back and guess what? It's delicious and it's all sealed up just fine in my jelly glasses and put away in the pantry. So whenever you get in a pinch in the kitchen, remember your THRIVE products. They really can save the day even if it's not during a natural disaster!

We Still Be So Lucky but Not for Long

Record low prices on these cases ending on Thursday! IT'S ALL OVER NOW

This great package deal for meats and cheeses(SEE MY PREVIOUS POST) has had such an overwhelmingly positive response that Shelf Reliance has had to change the date that it ends. Instead of the 17th of March, it will be ending THIS WEEK, on Thursday March 8th. They did this to ensure there would be enough supply to meet the demand. The demand being way beyond what they had expected! (That's partly because all the consultants are ordering these packages for themselves ;)

I've already helped a lot of you get the cases you want.
Maybe some don't realize how quickly things can happen where you would totally need this. I'm not going to recap this weeks natural disasters for you.

You all know better. Boy Scouts got it right long ago. BE PREPARED!

You can only get this sale price by calling me up and ordering on the phone. Sorry. Those are the rules. Leave a comment if you want this package, with your email. I'll send you my phone number and we'll get you fixed up!

I'll be doing another post next week when I'm back to feeling 100% again.

In other news:
Flu. 2 weeks. Avoid it if you can!

Sensible Q People Needed

You know how I'm always talking blogging about the Q? The monthly shipping program which Shelf Reliance put into place for those of us who don't have that proverbial money tree growing in their backyard?

Well it really makes great sense! So I'm looking for 10 sensible people who would like to invest in something that can pay off in great dividends. My goal in the 12 days is to find you, the sensible ones and help you redirect some of your current food bill to the Q. How could this possibly be accomplished?

Easy peasy. Do you make impulse purchases each month (Big Gulp, Red Bull, Monsters, candy bars, ice cream etc.)? Do you throw away food(It's really amazing how much food gets plopped onto a little kids' plate that gets washed down the kitchen sink)(Portion control begins with toddlers!)? Do you eat fast food unnecessarily? (I know sometimes it's a life saver. But most times it's impulsive.) Can you identify and locate $25 per week that you could redirect towards THRIVE foods? I bet you can.

So here's what you do:
*You make a list of foods that are staples.

*You make a list of foods that you use often in your regular recipes:

*You make a list of foods you would NEED to comfort yourself in times of hardship.

List 1 will have things like flour, sugar, beans, wheat, milk, rice, salt, meat, eggs, water.
List 2 will have things like onions, peppers, ground beef, tomato products, bananas, pancake mix, butter, strawberries, boullion, celery, pasta, chicken, powdered drink mixes.
List 3 will have things like fudge brownie mix, mangoes, mushrooms, cheese, cherries, grapes, coconut macaroons, ice cream, chocolate drink.

The cool thing is that no matter what you put on your list or how much you put on it, YOU are in control of it on a monthly basis! Which means you can rearrange what is being sent each month. You can add or delete products on your list. You can pause or cancel your shipments after 90 days. You can even change your budget amount after 90 days! It's not a long term contract. Yay for the average American pocketbook!

So are there 10 of you reading this that are game? It's not a game really. It truly is serious. I've heard many stories of food storage getting people through hard & unexpected times. But there are at least 10 of you sensible enough to sit down and get serious yourself.

Those first 10 will be getting a gift from me as a thank you. Not sayin' what it is except something related to emergency preparedness. (Okay. I'm saying what it is! A free pantry can of 6 grain pancake mix. Yummmm!)

There are 12 days left in this month. It's leap year. Sensible people will know it's the right time to LEAP!

What's YOUR Best 'Worst Case Scenario'?

It's no laughing matter. There are a lot of disasters out 'there'. We are sort of cushioned as long as those disasters stay out 'there' and don't bother us 'here'. We read of war, shortages, unemployement, famine, pestilence, disease, earthquake, and so many etc. Some things we have experienced to some degree. I remember my first big earthquake. We lived about 5 miles from the epicenter so it was a violent bit of shaking! I truly thought that California was going to slide into the Pacific Ocean and that this was my last day on earth! (That was 41 years ago this February 9th).

Not pleasant. I'm sure many of you have similar experiences.

Whatever the disaster may be that is lurking in your future, you have RIGHT NOW to do something ahead of it. Buy a case of soup or fruits or vegetables. Even tuna or spam. Don't forget a can opener (hand crank! Who knows if we'll have power!)

You know I've been harassing you for a long time about the what ifs. I've been doing everything in my bloggin power to convince you to order something yummy and nutritious from Shelf Reliance to at least put away in case of a job loss or other financial deficit or extended power outageor whatever. These are old stats but it's a good indicator of what's going on:

Really! What more can I do to increase your awareness and awaken your sense of urgency? You know you waste money on frivolous things, expensive things, unecessary things. Diverting that money towards some food storage will not 'hurt' you. You know this so why am I continually harping on about it? What is YOUR best 'worst case scenario' and more importantly, are you ready?

Well there's a new menace out there. One for which there is no hope for release. A terrifying new disaster just waiting in the wings. Believe me, if you haven't heard of it before, it will scare the crap out of you!

I'm in the business of educating people, warning people, preparing people. Providing the best product I've ever found in taste, nutrition, convenience and affordability is what I do every day. I do it for myself and my family first and then I reach out to all of yous guys.

Please channel your inner boyscout before this next disaster strikes!! (No. It's not the November elections. But it's almost as scary!)

Yes. That's right. Zombie Apocolypse. Coming soon. As if we didn't already have enough to worry about!

Pictures worth a 1000 words

We've had a little rain...

And a bit of wind...

(PS. This is NOT snow!)

And road closures...

At this time, there are no delivery trucks able to bring in food to our grocery stores. And this storm is not over yet...

Many of my friends are without power.
Many more are short on food in their pantries.
Many are calling me for orders that I can't promise will be delivered.

SHELF RELIANCE....Just sayin'

THE Q. WHAT IS IT?

Well, it's the 17th letter in the english alphabet.

BUT, in any other country but America, a 'Q' is another word for 'line up'. It's spelled differently too. 'Queue'. So what does this international bit of trivia have to do with the price of corn in Kansas? A LOT!

At Shelf Reliance you can 'line up' or 'Q' a list of foods for your family for a determined amount of time. Say you are a family of 4 and you would like to provide your family a well balanced and nutritious diet of about 2000 calories per day.

And say you would like to have long-storing food (like THRIVE)in your pantry for emergency use and/or the daily convenience of it all, that would amount to about 12 months.

After using the free tool online called the 'Thrive planner' or 'food calculater, the computer would generate a 'line up' or 'Q' of the amount of Thrive foods they recommend to give you balance meals per day. Everything you would use would be listed there from soups, sugar, strawberries, pancake mix, eggs, chicken to wheat, brown sugar, salt, milk and of course, the essentials like coconut macaroons and freeze dried ice cream sandwiches! AND you can customize the list by editing it to your taste preferences or dietary needs.

It's genius really, cuz then you can start a systematic acquisition of these foods at a monthly budget you can afford. (Shelf Reliance recommends that you try to 're-alocate' money you are already spending on groceries toward your food storage) Most people start out about $100 per month.

Then at the appointed day of the month, pre-determined by you, Shelf Reliance will deliver that portion of your 'Q' directly to your door! Just like the old fashioned milkman used to do!

Most importantly of all, THIS is what the 'Q' has to do with the price of corn in Kansas: PEOPLE ON THE 'Q' GET THE ROCK BOTTOM LOWEST PRICES ON THEIR PRODUCTS! A great way to invest in your food insurance!

The Q! There now. Don't you just feel all suave and continental?

Dawn of a new year one day at a time

Welcome to my blog spot "Eat To Live". My name is Dorie Smith and I'm here to be of service! Here you will find helpful hints, inspirational nudges and practical advice on how to use food storage to enhance your diet and benefit your family as well as your budget.

You get to take these daily steps as I take them for I am a new consultant for Shelf Reliance/Thrive foods and emergency products.

The title of my blog comes from a quote on my favorite Aunt Jan's refrigerator, left there by her husband, my Uncle Clyde. It said "WE DON'T LIVE TO EAT, WE EAT TO LIVE". Too much of my life I have chosen the former rather than the latter sentiment. 2011 and my new life as a food storage consultant have prompted me to look at food from a different perspective. In case of emergency, I want to have at least 3-6 months of stored items to provide my family with foods they will actually eat! And I want to learn how to use them often so I am used to them. We have auto insurance, life insurance, health insurance. I want my family to have food insurance too!

Using freeze dried foods added to my basic food storage, I plan to have nutritious and interesting meals that go beyond wheat, beans, sugar, milk, oil and salt!

Let's get started! I will be posting recipes that you can try, using as much food storage ingredients as I have on hand, adapted to what you may have.
You will also be able to contact me by email, to become a member of my customer list. This will give you discounts on your Thrive purchases through me. We'll talk more on that as I learn. Baby steps, you know. Baby steps!

Tomorrow my menu consists of a fresh fruit/spinach smoothie for 2 snacks, 6 grain pancakes with coconut oil and maple syrup, tuna salad sandwich and for dinner, sweet and sour meatballs and rice!
THIS RECIPE CAN BE USED WITH FRESH INGREDIENTS AS WELL AS STORAGE FOODS.
THRIVE FOODS MAKE IT CONVENIENT AS THE LARGE CANS (#10) LAST LONG (15-30 YEARS UNOPENED, 6 MONTHS TO 2 YEARS OPENED).
