(: No need to panic, just be prepared :)

"The United Nations warned this past Friday that millions of people are now at risk after food prices hit their highest level ever as Global wheat stocks fell to 175.2 million tons from 196.7 million tons a year ago; Global corn stocks are said may be 127.3 million tons at the end of this season, compared with last month’s USDA outlook for 130 million tons; and Global soybean inventories will drop to 58.78 million tons at the end of this season, from 60.4 million tons a year earlier."

This quote from the Bloomberg report coupled with the natural disasters in so many nations, that have ruined crop production, spells higher prices and shortages ahead. I'm not a 'doom and gloomer'. In fact my motto this year, posted in my kitchen in large letters reminds me to, "Be of good cheer." And I plan to keep smiling and keep teaching people the importance of getting their food storage and about how to use it daily.

I said in an earlier post that I have plenty of staple goods to survive on. Lots of wheat, beans, milk, sugar, salt and oil. But have you ever had to make food from raw ingredients like these before? I'll give you an example:

Here is a recipe for beans, something we all eat occasionally but few prepare from start to finish

Really Easy Barbeque Beans

These beans take maybe 5 minutes of hands-on time, and taste really good on a chilly day. They're also very inexpensive. Good with hot cornbread!

The night before you want to serve the beans, put 2 C of small white beans in a crockpot, then add enough water to cover the beans by about 3 inches. Cook on low all night.
The next morning, drain the beans and rinse. Using a 1-cup measuring cup, measure 3/4 C barbeque sauce, then fill to the top with molasses for 1/4 C molasses. (This way, the molasses won't stick to the measuring cup, making for easy cleanup.) Dump the mixture into the crockpot and stir.
5. Let the beans cook in the sauce all day on low, and they'll be ready for supper.

YIKES! For most people, you need 2 things to prepare beans, a can of beans and a can opener! Do you want to wait around for 2 days to eat the only thing you have stored??

OR how about this one:

Wheat-Berry Pilaf
1. Cook wheat berries:
Combine 1 C wheat w/ 5 C water & let stand at least 8 hours or overnight. Without draining, bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat & simmer until tender (abt 1½ hours). Drain, cool, and cover. Makes 3 cups.
2. Add vegetables.
Heat 1/4 C oil in large frying pan over med heat. Saute 1 chopped onion & ½ lb mushrooms until limp and liquid has evaporated. Stir in 2 chicken bouillon cubes w/ ½ C hot water. Add mixture to pan w/ ½ tsp basil leaves, 1/4 tsp pepper, and the 3 C cooked wheat berries. Cover & simmer. Thinly slice 2 medium zucchini and carrots. Add to pan, cover & simmer until wheat is heated through and liquid is absorbed (abt 10 minutes).
3. Add cheese & garnish. !!

Garnish? There won't be any 'garnish'! I will be gnawing on my arm by the time this recipe is ready to eat!

For most people, homemade cookies = a tube of dough bought at the store.

Homemade waffles = Eggos or a box of Aunt Jemima’s

Beans come in a can just add can opener!

Rice is white and instant, not brown, long cooking.

Kids favorite part of the chicken is the McNugget.

And for far too many families, the most common dinner recipe involves just 3 ingredients:

1. A car
2. A wallet
3. A McDonald’s drive-thru

And THIS is why I am LOVING Thrive/Shelf Reliance food storage! It ain't yo mama's food storage! It ain't yo gramma's food storage. It's storage for people of today's world! We are gonna eat what we are used to. These foods taste good, are easy to prepare and each can comes with a suggested recipe.

So let's start today to utilize the products from Thrive in our everyday cooking. I love that I have 250+ eggs in a can! I don't have chickens! I don't have time for chickens! In a crisis, they won't lay anyway so I'm ahead of the game already with just one can of powdered eggs.

See, what I'm getting at is that right now we have a window of opportunity to get things squared away that we've maybe been putting off.

I will tell you one more time, email me if you want to be on my customer list. This gives you your own password into the Shelf Reliance site which gives you MY PARTY DISCOUNT PRICE! You can order as little or as much as you like. It will be delivered right to your door.

If you choose to join the Q club where you sign up to receive monthly shipments automatically, if you click on the 'join the Q club' button and join the BRONZE level, you will automatically be upgraded to the PLATINUM level FOR FREE! This free offer is good until FEB. 2011. Thereafter, the PLATINUM level is $79 with a yearly fee of $15, to receive a guaranteed lowest price.

What's in it for me, you may ask. Well, yes there is something in it for me. Peace of mind. I love my friends and family. Not having to worry about them in a crisis lets me concentrate on what's happening in my own backyard. I also get a small % for my advertising and encouraging and helping, and some free food storage. That's nice too.
